The Home Ownership program is a cornerstone of our organization at Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity. Our Home Ownership program helps families and individuals move into newly built or fully renovated, energy efficient, affordable homes. Applicants are chosen by their need for housing, willingness to partner and ability to pay a mortgage. See Application Instructions for more information on how to apply.
Qualifications
- Need for decent, affordable housing.
- Willingness to partner with Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity by participating in Housing Counseling to improve your financial skills, home maintenance classes to learn how to maintain your new home, and by contributing hours of sweat equity.
- Ability to pay the monthly mortgage.
- Residency: U.S. citizenship, permanent residency status, or eligible immigration status. Must live or work in Saginaw or Shiawassee County.
- First-time home buyer: May not have owned a home currently or in the last three years.
- Bankruptcy: Minimum two years after discharge.
- Meet Household Income Criteria and work toward Credit Standards.
Credit Standards
Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity does not require perfect credit. We consider applicants who demonstrate the ability to make regular payments on their bills. Our Housing Counselors will help you improve your credit to prepare you for home purchase.
Household Income Criteria
Applicants must meet the following total gross household income. For example, if you are a three-person household in Saginaw County, your total household income must fall between $19,300 and $51,500 as a qualifying factor to purchase a home through our organization.
