Without volunteers, Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity would not exist.
“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in each person.”
– I Corinthians 12: 4-6
Volunteers are the backbone of Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity! The success of our organization relies on the commitment of our volunteers – a good team of volunteers and a consistent working environment is critical for achieving best results.
All volunteers must register on Get Connected to view and sign up for volunteer opportunities.
Before coming in for orientation, please print and complete the combined Volunteer Interest/Skill Survey and the Release and Waiver of Liability forms.
Be a well-educated, and safe volunteer.
You’ve made an important decision to be a Habitat for Humanity volunteer. Helping a family obtain a safe, decent and affordable home or repair the home they already live in is a very gratifying experience. Whether you’re accustomed to working in construction, have no experience at all, or fall somewhere in between, it’s crucial that the work you do on the job site is done safely.
Safety
Before volunteering on a construction or home repair project site, it is mandatory to complete volunteer safety training. The course is approximately 30 minutes to complete, while empowering you with the safety and knowledge you’ll need to be an effective part of your Habitat volunteer experience. Upon completion of the online course, confirmation will be sent to us with a certificate showing your completed course.

Jobs for Volunteers
Hundreds of volunteers are needed to help build houses each year. If you have no experience but are willing to learn a new skill, that is great! If you have some experience, that is a plus – and if you are a pro, we would love to have you be a crew leader, leading less skilled volunteers.
Construction
Our construction crew is onsite year-round every Tuesday and Thursday. If you are interested in getting your hands dirty and helping with a home renovation, new home build, or an in-home project, this is the group for you! Full days are available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but half days and specialized schedules (including Saturdays) are available upon request. Half day hours are: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No construction experience required; just a will to learn and help!
