Our story

While our organization has mainly focused on building and repairing homes, we also realize the importance of providing financial education and coaching services to help families build financial strength.  Meet one-on-one with a financial coach who will help you set goals and provide the tools you need to build a stronger future for you and your family.

Successful Story:

Sabrina was growing increasingly worried about her property tax bill and didn’t know how she would be able to pay the amount due in time to prevent foreclosure.

Her tax money had been used to remove a garage structure damaged by fire.  At the time she thought she would find a way to get caught up on taxes, but there was never enough to pay them in full.  The balance continued to grow.

By working with a financial coach, she applied to Step Forward Michigan which paid her back taxes in full.  She also created a budget and set goals to stay on track for the future.

She now sets aside a bit of money each month for taxes and is very thankful  that Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity could help save her home.
